SYSTEM OVERVIEW

National Cash Registers (NCR) are the world’s largest manufacturer of Automated Telling Machines (ATM/Cash Points). When US federal tax law changed to enable members of the public to manage their income tax at ATMs, convenience store chain 7-eleven, requested 1,200 of these ATMs from NCR for their stores across the USA.

NCR needed a telephone unit to add to these ATMs with an excellent reliability record and built to NCR customisation and competitive delivery requirements. GAI-Tronics UK manufacturing facility was chosen for its ability to produce high quality, reliable rugged telephones to customer specific requirements in addition to their standard telephone range.

 

SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY

A major consideration for NCR choosing GAI-Tronics for this project is GAI-Tronics proven reliability record and high levels of quality control essential for many of the safety critical markets it currently addresses.

The GAI-Tronics supplied telephones have a stainless steel keypad mounted within a customer specific enclosure to withstand user abuse including volume control buttons to conform to US ADA requirements.  On lifting the handset the telephone automatically dials a pre-programmed number. The keypad is disabled until this call is connected and then automatically enables to allow the user make menu selections and preventing non-approved calls being made.

NCR also require the ability to monitor the telephones and check their operation at any time.  The telephone modules have GAI-Tronics SMART (Self-Monitoring and Reporting Technology) built-in, to work with GAI-Tronics T.M.A. (Telephone Management Application) remotely monitoring each of the telephones from a central location.  NCR are able to automatically call each telephone (or the phone call in) and fully test the units operation. This feature enables NCR to easily identify telephones that may have a problem, without physically visiting the unit.

GAI-Tronics have met the competitive delivery schedule issued, from FCC approval of the telephone module (for use in North America), through evaluation samples, to full scale production and shipping of finished product, demonstrating GAI-Tronics’ commitment to customer requirements.
