SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The Didcot Power Station supplies the UK National Grid System with electricity from it’s coal fired generators. The requirement from Didcot is to supply a Public Address and Voice Evacuation System to replace a system installed 6 years ago by another supplier.

Following a site survey GAI-Tronics established that the upgrade could be achieved by the supply of a modern Central Station that would interface to the existing network of loudspeakers. The system required for the Power Station is required to enable site wide PA broadcasts as well as issuing dedicated Alarms across the complex.

GAI-Tronics where asked to bid for the replacement of the existing PA System whilst still operating a live system across the complex with minimal system down time. The system does have site wide alarm broadcast capability and confidence had to be assured that an operational system existed at all times during the system change out.

 

SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY

GAI-Tronics will design, supply & commission, install and maintain the required PA System on a turn-key basis. The replacement system for the Didcot Power Station comprises of a dedicated PA System consisting of a dedicated equipment control racks with remote access panels. The existing loudspeaker network will be utilised on this system.

The proposed equipment rack house system control and monitoring facilities. This will enable a secure means of informing personnel in the event of an emergency situation by use of broadcasting specific verbal instructions Plant wide. The system is also available for the broadcast of the Plant Alarms and test messages. The system is continuously and fully monitored for system availability. All loudspeaker and microphone cables are monitored for both open and short circuit conditions.
