SYSTEM OVERVIEW
GAI-Tronics Corporation won the award to design and install a supervised Communication Management System at the IAMS Company facility located in Aurora, Nebraska. Due to a plant expansion that will almost double the size of the facility, the communication system needed to be expanded and upgraded. An installed base of GAI-Tronics Page/Party® and SmartVolume™ equipment formed the backbone for a SmartSeries® Communication management System purchased in January 1997.

SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY
The system combined standard Page/Party® and SmartSeries® stations, two central amplifier zones, a link to the PBX for telephone dial-up paging, and an interface to a programmable logic circuit (PLC) which is linked to 48 process alarms and inputs from the existing fire detection system.
Equipment provided includes a mix of standard Page/Party® and SmartSeries® stations, a SmartSeries® Control Unit, two custom Access Panels, and a Desktop Subset for paging into the warehouse.
The system allows intra-communication and paging, and sounding of general alarms such as "Fire" or "Tornado". Process alarms within each zone are also heard over the SmartSeries® system.
The SmartSeries® Control Unit monitors the SmartSeries® equipment in Zones 1-4 and the speaker loop integrity in Zones 5-6. The two Access Panel VDFs display fault and status information received from SmartSeries® equipment in the zones, or from the Control Unit. The panel operators can manually activate seven tone/pre-recorded messages for general alarms; pages from either Access Panel will override any alarm or page in process for emergency live voice messages.
