SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Using a combination of SmartSeries® ADVANCE and SONIC ALARM® equipment, the Amoco facility is provided with both operation communications (where required) and emergency notification. To maximise the system's manageability, 28 separate communication systems are each equipped with a SONIC ALARM® RTU to interface with the two Emergency Command Centres in the Administration and Lab buildings. These twenty-eight areas are then grouped into eight zones for emergency notification purposes.

SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY

The Lab and Administration buildings are both designated as Emergency Command Centres (ECC) and receive data from the 28 SONIC ALARM® RTUs, exchange data via an ethernet cable, and send alarms or pages to some or all communication zones. ECC operators can enter the EMERGENCY, ALL CLEAR, and TORNADO WARNING alarms.

The process units, already equipped with GAI-Tronics Page/Party® systems, utilise an Advance Control Unit to manage the system and permit the activation of EMERGENCY and ALL CLEAR tones. The SONIC ALARM® RTU notifies the ECC that the alarm was entered; the ECC operator will then determine if the alarm requires further action.

Areas within the facility not requiring operational communications are equipped with SONIC ALARM® speaker towers.

Some of the major benefits of adding the system upgrade are:

• Loudspeaker coverage is enhanced
• Each process unit's page line is supervised
• Indicating appliance circuits (to visual strobe devices) and initiating device circuits (from local alarm pushbuttons) are supervised
• Loudspeakers connected to SmartSeries® Amplifiers are supervised through the speaker voice coil
• Loudspeakers connected to SmartSeries® Amplifiers include SmartVolume® technology
